Although acquisitions are not Rackspace's forte, I would argue a mature tech company must learn how to play the M&A game. Every big technology company does this, and with good execution. 

You can't argue with Cisco, Google, Apple etc. making these moves and doing well with them.

Multi-Cloud Management is key..
Given how many cloud platforms are getting traction, it makes sense to have a managed services player out there to help get all the clouds working together. This is a smart move for Rackspace.
